Michael Nugent! You sprung to mind when your pseudo religion of Leeds United popped up in desperate conversation. What happened to Michael? Had he embraced the dark side and joined the enclosed order of St. Tibulus, or, ran away to the self-flagelators of St. Clabbert. Seriously, I’d heard that you were unwell. It must be the water in Willow Park, because, I’ve a rare neurological disorder, Dystonia. After 30+ years I eventually got redemption through Deep Brain Surgery in London. Hey! I’m a cyborg! For your info., I had a great psychologist there. Amongst the box of tricks she gave me was a philosophy of living mindfully within the day embracing “Amor Fati”. I’ll let you Google it, but, it works for me. Life is sweet when given a second lap. It’s great to see you recovering. You’ve obviously a great friend in Jane. We all need at least one. Onwards and upwards from here on. Hasta La vista!

Hi Steve, great to hear from you! Leeds is worse than a religion, because you can change your religion. But at least we’re back in with the big religions next season. I’m delighted you have got relief from the dystonia, and Amor Fati is a wise and helpful philosophy. I think of it as dating fate and loving the relationship. Hope we can meet up again sometime. I think the last time might have been in Andersons cafe or am I imagining that?

Great to see you “back” in the race Michael. We need articulate contrarians (though I’m sure there’s a better term) like you, more than ever in these “interesting times” as the Chinese curse goes. I’m in London next week, but, after that I’ll buy you a sticky bun and fair-trade coffee - though you being a vegan, Elderberry, or, similar is probably more apt, anytime after that in your local café. I do miss Anderson’s in Drumcondra, my former pit-stop en route to urban Swords. Remember, as with most things in this great adventure called life, health the line is not always linear, but, hopefully upwards. 🤞.Stay good.

You’re definitely on your way back to a healthy life, though I must admit to a chuckle and a head scratch trying to picture a Frankenstein/Steed combo style gait!

Thanks, Apennino. It's like the 'Putting On The Ritz' scene in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein!

Gosh I am sorry to hear about your illness but happy to hear you are out the other side on the up now! I did notice you had been absent and wondered what had happened. Happy you are back talking about atheism and education. All the best.

Michael I’m delighted to read you’re feeling better. I saw you in the Botanics but didn’t like to approach you. You were with a few people.

I went to school with Paul (billy as we knew him) a great friend and a funny guy and a great footballer. We had great fun always. His passing was so sad. I remember it well.

I met you and your lovely wife Anne a while ago with Peter Davitt in the Maples hotel. A good friend still even though he’s in Kilkenny now.

Best of luck to you in the future and maybe we might meet again soon.

Regards

Declan O’Sullivan.

Keep writing!!!

Hi Declan, always feel free to approach me if you see me around. It’s mad to think that Billy would be in his sixties now. But he’ll always be a teenager in our memories. And Anne is dead fourteen years now. These tragedies put everything in perspective, and helped me through my illness. Yes, hopefully we’ll meet again soon.

Well, that explains it!

I'm very glad you hear you are in good enough condition to unleashed yourself upon the iniquitous again. I am imagining some kind of Rocky-style training montage, alternating with reps on the keyboard.

Please reassure me that it's just like that.
